KSE -100 up big; market capitalisation also increased

August 21, 2026

At the end of the market, the KSE 100 index closed at 182,221 points, up 982 points. The index was supported by increased interest in selected stocks of various sectors in the last session, and the market remained in the positive zone.

According to weekly data, the 100 index recorded a total decline of 3,130 points, which shows that the selling pressure in the initial sessions of the week affected the overall direction of the market, although the last day’s rally helped reduce some losses.

The week was also very active in terms of business activity. About 94 crore shares were traded on Friday, with a total value of Rs 38 billion, while over 5.35 billion shares were traded during the entire week, with a total value of about Rs 238 billion.

According to the data, the KSE 100 index moved in a wide band of about 8,715 points during the week, reflecting market volatility and cautious investor sentiment.

The total market value (market capitalisation) also saw an increase of Rs 121 billion on the last trading day, after which it increased to Rs 2,503 billion. However, on a weekly basis, a total decrease of Rs 259 billion was recorded in market capitalisation, indicating overall pressure on share prices during the entire week.

According to financial experts, the positive developments of the last day have improved investor confidence to some extent; however, the direction of the market next week will depend on economic indicators, corporate results and the overall sentiment of investors. Investors will now focus on new economic announcements and possible developments in the market.
