Government plans to import 100,000 metric tons, invites bids

Karachi: To keep sugar prices stable and ensure availability in the market, the federal government has started a new phase of imports. The Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) has announced that tenders can be submitted for the import of 100,000 metric tons of sugar by September 8, 2025.

The main condition of this tender is that bids of less than 25,000 tons will not be considered, so that substantial results can be achieved in the import process.

According to sources, six bids were received for 200,000 metric tons of sugar in the tender opened on August 21, with the lowest price being $560 per metric ton and the highest being $592 per ton.

Experts say that the government has already provided tax exemption on imported sugar, which will not only help in controlling prices but will also provide relief to the public.
