Lahore: The water level in the Sutlej River in Pakistan’s Punjab province is continuously rising, due to which the flood situation in the riverine areas has become serious.

According to PDMA Punjab, there is a serious threat of hundreds of villages being submerged in the downstream of the Sutlej and its surroundings. This major flood is expected to cause severe damage to crops, houses and infrastructure.

The process of displacement of people from the low-lying areas of the Sutlej River has begun.

According to local authorities, thousands of families have started leaving their homes and moving to safer places. Flood victims say that the water level is rising rapidly and they are facing difficulty in saving their livestock and valuables. According to sources, there are also reports of people’s livestock being swept away in the water in many low-lying areas.

The situation near Ganda Singh, Kekar Post and Bazidpur in Kasur is most alarming. The district administration has imposed an emergency in these areas and has intensified relief operations. Rescue 1122 and the district administration are on high alert and work is underway to shift the victims to safer places.

There is a risk of thousands of acres of standing crops being submerged in water due to floods in the Sutlej, which is causing serious concern among farmers.

Due to the flood relay in Kasur, land connectivity of several villages has been cut off, and the water level near the Ganda Singh border has risen to dangerous levels. Orders have been issued to evacuate more areas along the Sutlej River. The Pakistan Army and rescue teams have been deployed to deal with the flood situation.

According to environmentalists, one of the reasons for the unusual rise in the water level in the Sutlej River is heavy rains in India and the release of water from dams. They say that this situation reflects the increasing effects of climate change. Experts have warned that the government should immediately prepare long-term plans to deal with such floods in the future.
