Tehran: Iran has said that preparations for signing the proposed memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United States have entered the final stages, but the process is not aimed at forgetting recent disputes and losses.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei, addressing a press conference in Tehran, said that significant progress has been made in the past 24 hours and the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States is expected to be signed in Geneva on Friday.
He said that the agreement does not mean that Iran will forget the harm done to its people, leadership and country. According to him, the Iranian nation remained united with its leadership during the recent crisis and demonstrated steadfastness in protecting national interests.
The spokesman criticized the international community and international institutions, saying that they have failed to effectively condemn the US and Israeli actions against Iran.
According to Ismail Baqai, the proposed memorandum of understanding includes several points related to regional stability, including the principles of Lebanon’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and non-interference in its internal affairs.
He said that before the signing ceremony in Geneva, Iranian officials will visit various neighboring countries to inform regional partners about the progress.
The spokesman said that the US must take practical steps to restore Iran’s trust. He stressed that ending the ongoing conflicts in the region and strengthening the legal and diplomatic framework are essential for lasting peace.
Esmail Baqai added that the details of the diplomatic and technical aspects of the MoU will soon be presented to the public and the media, while the process of finalizing the signing procedure is underway.
He expressed the hope that under the agreement, Iran will have appropriate opportunities for exporting its oil and petrochemical products and that matters related to frozen Iranian assets will also be resolved.
