Islamabad – US Vice President J. D. Vance has said that the 21-hour-long talks between the US and Iran in Islamabad ended without any final agreement.
During the press briefing, he said that the two sides had detailed discussions on several important issues, and the US delegation showed good faith and flexibility in the negotiations. According to him, the US presented its conditions clearly, which included sensitive issues related to Iran’s frozen assets, nuclear programme and regional security.
J. D. Vance said that the main priority of the US is that Iran does not acquire such equipment or facilities in the future that can quickly produce nuclear weapons. He claimed that some of Iran’s uranium enrichment facilities have been destroyed, and Washington wants clear assurances from Tehran that it will not produce nuclear weapons in the future.
He added that the good news is that many concrete and serious issues were discussed with the Iranian delegation; however, the lack of an agreement is a disappointing development for the US.
The US Vice President praised Pakistan’s role, especially thanking Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Syed Asim Munir. He said the Pakistani leadership had done “awesome work” to bridge the differences between the two countries.
