ISLAMABAD: The federal government issued a formal apology to electricity consumers on Wednesday as unexpected “load management” intensified across the country due to a significant drop in hydropower generation. In an official statement, the Power Division expressed regret for the deviation from the promised schedule, explaining that the current water shortage has severely restricted the capacity of dams to produce electricity. This shortfall has forced authorities to implement additional power cuts to balance the national grid amid the widening gap between supply and demand.
The Power Division spokesperson highlighted that the reduction in water availability has created a challenging environment for the energy sector, which relies heavily on hydropower for affordable base-load electricity. To mitigate the impact of these outages, the government has appealed to the public to practice extreme energy conservation, particularly during the high-demand nighttime hours. Citizens are being urged to switch off unnecessary lights and appliances to help stabilize the system while technical teams work to manage the available resources more efficiently.
This development comes as a blow to consumers who were expecting a more stable power supply during the current season. While the government is exploring alternative thermal and renewable sources to bridge the deficit, the stubborn nature of the water crisis remains a primary hurdle.
Moving forward, the Power Division emphasizes that energy-saving habits at the household level will be crucial in avoiding prolonged blackouts as the country navigates through this period of reduced hydroelectric output and infrastructure strain.
