TEHRAN: Iran has accused the United States of breaching a recently agreed ceasefire, saying the violation has been formally conveyed to mediators in Pakistan.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei stated that Washington failed to uphold the terms of the truce by enforcing a naval blockade on Iranian ports and coastline.
He described the move as a clear violation of the agreement and stressed that such actions undermine diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation.
Baqaei also pointed to past experiences, saying Iran remains wary due to previous US actions during negotiations. He noted that Tehran cannot ignore earlier military steps taken during dialogue phases, which have contributed to ongoing mistrust.
The ceasefire, facilitated through indirect channels involving Pakistan, had been seen as a step toward reducing tensions in the region. However, recent developments — including maritime confrontations and enforcement measures in strategic waterways — have placed the fragile truce under strain.
Iran maintains that the blockade not only breaches the ceasefire but also violates international law, warning that continued pressure could further destabilise the situation.
The escalating tensions come amid uncertainty over the future of negotiations, with both sides accusing each other of non-compliance, raising concerns about the sustainability of the ceasefire and broader regional stability.
