Islamabad: The federal government’s non-tax revenue has set a new record in the fiscal year 2024-25, reaching Rs 4,959 billion, which is Rs 1,468 billion more than the previous fiscal year. The main reason for this extraordinary increase is the highest levy collections on petroleum products and the profit earned by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

According to economic sources, the amount received under petroleum levy increased from Rs 1,019 billion last year to Rs 1,220 billion, while a target of Rs 1,468 billion has been set for this in the current fiscal year. It should be noted that currently, the levy on petrol and diesel has reached the level of Rs 78 per liter.

Similarly, the Rs2,619 billion transferred by the State Bank of Pakistan has been added to the non-tax revenue of the federal exchequer, which has become the second largest source after petroleum levy.

Economists say that this increase in non-tax revenue may provide temporary relief, but the burden of petroleum levy on the public may further fuel inflation.
