Pakistan saved from default, policy rate 11 percent, youth are the axis of development: PM Shehbaz Sharif

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that Pakistan has been saved from default and the country’s economy is on the path to improvement. “In 2023, when there was talk of bankruptcy everywhere, we did not lose heart and trusted in Allah,” he said.

The Prime Minister said that after tough but successful negotiations with the IMF, Pakistan implemented reform measures, as a result of which the policy rate has now come down to 11 percent, which was 22 percent in the past. “This is the result of our hardworking economists and management team,” the Prime Minister said.

Referring to initiatives such as reforms in the FBR, digital system, and laptop schemes for youth, Shehbaz Sharif said that the basis of development is not only planning but also merit and transparency. “We dismissed officers who were hindering the performance of institutions and formed the best team.”

He further said that the Udan Pakistan program is a step towards involving the new generation in leadership and that the future of Pakistan is in their hands.
