The Strait of Hormuz will not return to pre-war status: Iran

Tehran: Iran has been extremely firm in responding to the security and administrative condition of the Strait of Hormuz, claiming that the passage crucial to the transport of oil and gas will not be as it used to be after the recent war.

In a statement, Iranian Armed Forces spokesperson Ebrahim Zolfaghari said a new reality has come about in the Strait of Hormuz since the war and fundamental changes have occurred in the security situation in the region. Iran will keep taking the measures it deems necessary to safeguard its national security and sovereignty, he said.

He stated that the US is frightened of the sovereignty of Iran over the Strait of Hormuz and is building tension so as to keep ‘playing’ its role in the region. While Washington is attempting to make it insecure, Iran is not going to roll the dice on its national interests, he says.

Ibrahim Zolfaghari also urged the Gulf countries to not permit their land or military bases for any potential action taken by the United States against Iran. He said that such actions may not only escalate tensions in the region but will also have a negative impact on peace and stability in the region.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical shipping lanes for shipping a significant quantity of crude oil and natural gas around the world. This is where any tension would be keenly monitored by world energy markets and international maritime trade.

In Iran’s claims, there has been no immediate official reply from the US; however, there is a strong Iranian opposition to these claims. Analysts say it will remain significant for the security of the Middle East and energy supply in the future in the Strait of Hormuz.
