Lahore: Pakistan Muslim League (N) President Nawaz Sharif has expressed concern over the political situation in Azad Kashmir and said that all issues should be resolved through constitutional and democratic means.
Addressing a meeting of the Muslim League (N) in Lahore, he said that the struggle for people’s rights can yield sustainable results only if it is carried out within the ambit of the constitution.
The meeting took a detailed review of the current political and administrative situation in Azad Kashmir, which was also attended by the party’s senior leadership. On this occasion, grief was expressed over the loss of lives during the recent incidents in the region.
Nawaz Sharif said that the Pakistan Muslim League (N) has a clear stance on the Kashmir issue and supports the right of self-determination of the people of occupied Kashmir, which should be in accordance with the resolutions of the United Nations.
He said that Pakistan’s relationship with the people of Azad Kashmir is historical, ideological and emotional in nature, and their rights and development have always been given priority.
The former prime minister said that instead of protest politics, dialogue and talks should be promoted so that stability can be maintained in the region. According to him, political differences should be resolved in a way that trust between institutions and the people is maintained.
He stressed that all political parties should avoid such steps that could lead to instability in the region or be used in the interests of external elements.
Nawaz Sharif also appreciated the role of the government of Pakistan and the defense institutions in the current situation and said that stability and harmony at the national level are the need of the hour.
The meeting also discussed the electoral activities in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, while organizational matters and election strategy were considered. The party leadership expressed its determination to make the future political strategy more effective.
