Imran Khan granted bail in 8 May 9 cases, release not immediate in Al-Qadir Trust case: Supreme Court

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has granted bail to former Prime Minister and founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan in eight cases of May 9. A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi heard the case, which also included Justice Shafi Siddiqui and Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi.

During the hearing, Special Prosecutor Punjab Zulfiqar Naqvi said that he could not appear yesterday due to illness, to which the Chief Justice asked him to assist today. The court asked him how the Lahore High Court’s decision and the series of bails granted on conspiracy charges would be applied to this case.

The Special Prosecutor replied that the court’s observation is usually of an interim nature and does not affect the trial, after which the court granted bail to former Prime Minister Imran Khan in eight cases of May 9.

However, the court clarified regarding the Al-Qadir Trust case that despite the bail, Imran Khan will not be released from jail immediately, as the sentence has already been issued in this case.

After this court decision, the former prime minister’s legal team has obtained interim bail in all the May 9 cases, however, the legal process will continue in other cases.
