Sharm El-Sheikh: The Gaza Peace Agreement was signed in the presence of world leaders in the Egyptian coastal city of Sharm El-Sheikh, which is being described as a major step towards peace in the Middle East.
The heads of the United States, Turkey, Egypt and Qatar signed the agreement. US President Donald Trump said in his address that “this peace agreement is a historic achievement, which will make lasting peace and stability in the Middle East possible.”
Trump said that “the efforts of the Emir of Qatar and the Turkish President are unparalleled, we are grateful to them. Egypt’s role has also been very important.”
He announced that “we will participate together in the reconstruction of Gaza, so that sustainable development can be ensured in the region.”
On the occasion of the meeting, Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif, in a meeting with the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, stressed the need to further strengthen the relations between the two countries.
PM Shahbaz Sharif appreciated the leadership of Qatar and its efforts for a just resolution of the Gaza crisis.
The historic agreement also saw the completion of a prisoner exchange following the ceasefire in Gaza, in which Hamas released 20 Israeli hostages while 1,966 Palestinian prisoners were released from Israel’s Ofer prison and sent back to Gaza.
