Lahore: The flooding in the Sutlej River in Punjab caused widespread destruction, as a result of which seven districts including Kasur, Okara, Pakpattan, Vehari, Bahawalnagar and Bahawalpur were affected. According to the latest data, 72 villages and 45 thousand people in Kasur district alone have been directly affected, while hundreds of settlements in other districts have also been submerged.
According to the briefing of the relief department, more than 150,000 people and 35,000 livestock have been shifted to safe places so far. Medical relief camps have been set up for the flood victims, where 2,600 patients have been treated so far.
In a meeting held in Lahore under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, it was decided to seek the help of the army for rescue operations in Lahore, Kasur, Sialkot, Narowal, Faisalabad, Okara and Sargodha. The Chief Minister directed to utilize all resources and impose emergency in hospitals.
Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Chief Secretary and other high officials also attended the meeting and gave a detailed briefing on the situation in the affected districts.
