Emphasis on CPEC and trade cooperation in PM Shehbaz Sharif and Wang Yi’s meeting

Islamabad: In the meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the two countries not only reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen strategic relations but also agreed to enter a new chapter in economic partnership.

The Prime Minister said on the occasion that Pakistan is committed to increasing cooperation with China in trade, ICT, agriculture and minerals.  He described CPEC Phase II as a fundamental pillar of Pakistan’s socio-economic development and regional connectivity.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, while describing Pakistan as an “all-weather strategic partner,” assured that China will always stand with Pakistan for regional peace, development and prosperity.

According to analysts, the meeting has taken place at a time when Pakistan is in dire need of economic reforms and foreign investment, and China is emerging as a strong partner to fill this gap.
