Islamabad: In the wake of escalating tensions in South Asia, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Ishaq Dar, has reiterated the nation’s commitment to regional peace and stability.
Addressing concerns over water resource management, Senator Dar emphasized the importance of discretion, stating that it would be inappropriate to disclose government plans regarding water issues through talks with private media channels. He affirmed that Pakistan has already provided a comprehensive response to India concerning the Indus Waters Treaty and will continue to handle such matters through appropriate diplomatic avenues.
On the security front, Senator Dar revealed that the United States played a pivotal role in mediating a ceasefire between Pakistan and India. He noted that the U.S. Secretary of State communicated India’s willingness to cease hostilities, to which Pakistan responded affirmatively, provided the commitment was mutual.
Senator Dar also highlighted Pakistan’s proactive diplomatic initiatives, announcing that parliamentary delegations are scheduled to visit the United States, the United Kingdom, Brussels, France, and Russia. These visits aim to present Pakistan’s perspective on recent developments and to foster international understanding.
Regarding recent military escalations, he confirmed that India had launched four missiles, three of which landed in Amritsar, while one entered Pakistani airspace and was successfully intercepted.
Emphasizing the importance of dialogue, Senator Dar stated that Pakistan remains open to negotiations with India to reduce tensions and resolve outstanding issues. He mentioned that multiple rounds of discussions between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) have taken place, with the next meeting scheduled for May 18.
In conclusion, Senator Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to peaceful resolutions and its readiness to engage in constructive dialogue to ensure regional harmony.
