KARACHI – The ongoing investigation against alleged drug dealer Anmol alias Pinky has taken a new turn, with the court sending him to jail on judicial remand in several drug and murder cases, while Karachi police have started preparations for action in Punjab to arrest his alleged accomplices.

On Friday, Anmol was shifted to the judicial complex under tight security, where cases pending against him in various courts were heard. The police requested further physical remand of the accused, but the court rejected it and granted a 14-day judicial remand.

According to the investigating authorities, several serious cases, including drug trafficking, illegal possession of weapons and murder, have been registered against the accused. Police say that after the recent operations, the nature of the case has become more extensive, and the investigation has now reached the interprovincial level.

The South Zone Police has sought formal permission from the Sindh government to arrest 15 alleged suspects present in Punjab. These include Anmol’s ex-husband, brother, alleged suppliers and people involved in drug distribution.

According to police officials, the alleged network of the accused is also being linked to an international drug gang. The documents have named two foreigners as key coordinators of the network, while several locals have been accused of assisting in the transportation of drugs.

Sources say that the investigating agencies are also examining financial transactions, mobile records and banking activities to reveal the structure of the entire network. According to the police, raids are being planned at various places in Karachi, Lahore and other cities of Punjab.

Meanwhile, the Lahore sessions court has ordered the registration of a case against former DSP Rana Muhammad Akram. The petitioner, actress Yasmin Tabassum, had taken the stand that the former officer had taken valuables from her house during an illegal operation.

The court ruled in its decision that the internal inquiry of the police has not been completed yet, so a formal case should be registered and a transparent investigation should be conducted. According to sources, Rana Muhammad Akram is said to be Anmol’s ex-husband, and his name is also included in the ongoing investigation.

Karachi police officials say that the crackdown on drug trafficking in the city is being tightened and no influential person will be spared. According to the police, this case is not limited to one individual but indicates an organised network with connections in different cities.

According to legal experts, if the investigation proves international links, the case could become more sensitive. On the other hand, civic circles have also welcomed the ongoing crackdown on drugs and demanded that indiscriminate action be taken against such networks.
