Lahore: The Punjab Home Department has officially imposed Section 144 across the province and announced a 30-day ban on outdoor drone flying, citing serious security concerns.
According to a formal notification issued on Tuesday, the decision has been taken under Section 144 to ensure public safety, maintain law and order, and protect public and private property. The restriction applies throughout Punjab and will remain in effect for the next 30 days.
Officials stated that the increasing security challenges and potential misuse of drones prompted the government to take precautionary measures. Authorities fear that unauthorized drone usage could pose risks to sensitive locations, public gatherings, and important installations.
However, the notification provides limited relaxation for indoor events.
Small drones may be used inside halls and marquees during private ceremonies and functions. The Home Department clarified that event organizers will be fully responsible for ensuring safe drone operations during indoor gatherings.
The statement further mentioned that law enforcement agencies and intelligence institutions have been exempted from the ban. These agencies will continue to use drones for official and security purposes as required.
A spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department emphasized that public safety remains the government’s top priority. “The protection of citizens, maintenance of peace, and safeguarding of property are our foremost responsibilities,” the spokesperson said.
The provincial administration has directed district authorities and police officials to strictly implement the orders. Violators of Section 144 may face legal action under relevant laws.
Security experts believe that drone technology, while useful for photography and surveillance, has increasingly raised safety concerns if used without regulation.
The temporary ban aims to control unauthorized aerial activity and prevent any potential threats.
Citizens have been advised to cooperate with authorities and avoid using drones in open areas during the ban period.
The government has assured that the situation will be reviewed after 30 days, and further decisions will be made based on the prevailing security environment.
