Karachi: According to the latest fuel demand data in the country, a significant decline was recorded in the sales of petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) during April 2026, while there was an extraordinary increase in the demand for furnace oil.

According to the report, petrol sales in April were 0.61 million tons, which is 8 percent less on a monthly basis and 7 percent less on an annual basis. Similarly, high-speed diesel sales were recorded at 0.55 million tons, which saw a decrease of 7 percent on a monthly basis and 12 percent less on an annual basis.

On the other hand, furnace oil sales reached 0.14 million tons, which recorded a significant increase. According to experts, the increase in demand for furnace oil can be linked to its use in power generation, especially when other energy sources are limited.

According to the data, total petroleum product sales in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year were 13.76 million tons, which is 4 percent more than the same period last year. During this period, gasoline sales were 6.41 million tons and high-speed diesel sales were 5.90 million tons, which increased by 4 percent and 5 percent respectively.

Regarding the performance of Pakistan State Oil (PSO), the report said that the company’s total sales were 5.83 million tons in 10 months, which shows a slight decline. PSO sales were also lower on a monthly and annual basis during April.

Experts say that the reasons for the decline in gasoline and diesel sales may include economic slowdown, fluctuations in fuel prices and a decrease in transport sector activities. In contrast, the increase in demand for furnace oil indicates the use of alternative sources to meet energy needs.
