Washington: A major breakthrough has been made in the ongoing diplomatic relations between the US and Iran, with US media releasing details of a proposed memorandum of understanding, claiming that the two countries are close to an interim agreement to reduce tensions in the region.

According to reports, under the proposed deal, Iran will completely open the Strait of Hormuz to maritime traffic, while naval mines installed in Gulf waters will also be removed. This move is being described as extremely important for global trade activities and oil shipments, as the Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the most important shipping routes in the world.

According to US media, in return for this breakthrough, the US will ease the blockade of Iranian ports, and Iran will be given more freedom to sell oil on the global market. According to observers, if this breakthrough takes practical form, it could provide temporary relief to Iran’s economy, while stability is also expected in the global energy market.

A US official said all of these measures would be implemented during the proposed 60-day extension of the ceasefire. During this period, the two countries will continue to hold further talks on sensitive issues, with Iran’s nuclear programme at the forefront.

The report said the memorandum of understanding is likely to include an assurance from Iran that it will never seek to acquire nuclear weapons. In addition, a temporary suspension of its uranium enrichment programme and negotiations on limiting its highly enriched uranium stockpiles could also be part of the deal.

Diplomatic sources said the US would maintain its recently deployed additional military presence in the region but would consider withdrawing those forces if a final and permanent agreement is reached. The proposed document reportedly also includes references to reducing tensions between Israel and Hezbollah and a possible ceasefire.

According to sources close to the White House, the US administration hopes that the remaining differences can be resolved in the next few hours, after which a formal announcement is likely on Sunday. However, Iran has not yet officially confirmed these details.

Analysts say that if this agreement is successful, it could significantly reduce the ongoing tension in the Middle East. Along with this, it is also expected to have a positive impact on crude oil prices in the global market, maritime trade and the diplomatic environment.
