Lahore: Commuters across Pakistan have received much-needed relief as public transport fares have been reduced following a sharp decline in diesel prices.

Officials confirmed that after a Rs32 per litre reduction in diesel prices, intercity and interprovincial bus fares have been lowered by up to 5%, with immediate implementation across major routes.

Under the revised fare structure, ticket prices from Lahore to key destinations have been reduced. The fare to Karachi now stands at Rs5,120, down from Rs5,390, while fares to Hyderabad and Moro have also been significantly cut.

Similarly, routes to Sukkur, Rahim Yar Khan, and other cities in southern Punjab and interior Sindh have seen noticeable reductions, easing travel costs for thousands of passengers.

Transport authorities said the decision was taken to pass on the benefit of lower fuel costs to the public and to ensure fairness in fare pricing.

Strict instructions have been issued to transporters to display updated fare lists and comply fully with the new rates. Authorities warned that any violation, including overcharging passengers, will result in legal action.

Experts believe that if fuel prices remain stable, further reductions in transport costs could follow, providing continued relief to the public.
