Lahore: Sugar prices have once again come down in wholesale markets across the country. A 50 kg bag of sugar, which was available for Rs 10,500 last week, has now come down to Rs 9,300, which is being described as the most significant drop of the current season.
According to market reports, the supply of sugar has suddenly increased with the start of new sugarcane crushing. The abundant sugar coming in reduced the pressure on the market and the prices automatically came down.
Traders agree that sugar prices may further decrease in the month of December as the flow of production continues. According to them, as soon as more stock comes into the market, the price of sugar is expected to decrease at the retail level as well, which could prove to be good news for the common consumer.
An energy and agricultural sector expert said that improved production prospects and timely crushing could play a key role in keeping sugar prices stable, provided that anti-hoarding measures continue.
