Lahore: Aiming to reduce waiting times and reduce overcrowding, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced a new online appointment system through its PakID mobile app, allowing citizens to pre-book visits to registration centers.
What’s new?
Under the new arrangements, applicants will not need to arrive early at NADRA registration centers or wait in long lines. Instead, they can use the PakID app to:
Choose a date and time for their visit,
Choose which NADRA center to visit
In some cases, reschedule if their plans change, offering more flexibility
Officials say the system is designed to make service delivery more efficient and reduce congestion at service centers.
Where it will be implemented.
The initial phase includes 43 NADRA Registration Centers (NRCs) across Pakistan. Major cities such as Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Quetta, Multan, Faisalabad, and other included areas are included.
NADRA has encouraged all users to update their PakID app to access the new appointment booking functionality as soon as it becomes available at their local center.
Why it matters.
Long queues and overcrowding at NADRA centers for obtaining identity services such as CNICs, NICOPs, and other registration procedures have long been a source of frustration.
By allowing citizens to book appointments in advance:
The burden on waiting areas will be reduced.
Staff can manage the flow of visitors more effectively, improving processing times.
This contributes to a more transparent and user-friendly government service.
How to Book
Here is a quick guide for citizens:
- Download or update the PakID mobile app on your smartphone.
- Open the app and go to the Appointment Booking section.
- Select your preferred NADRA center, date, and time slot.
- Arrive at the NADRA center at the scheduled time. Officers recommend arriving about 10 minutes early to allow for check-in.
- Use the app to reschedule appointments if necessary.
Potential Challenges and What to Watch Out For
While the system is welcomed, there are some points to consider:
Not all NADRA centers are yet enabled for the appointment system. Some remote or small-scale centers may be added at a later stage.
Citizens may need reliable internet access and familiarity with using mobile apps to fully benefit from this service.
During peak demand periods, even with appointments, overload may be seen, especially when many users try to book at the same time.
