ISLAMABAD – The National Assembly Standing Committee on National Health Services expressed grave concern on Thursday regarding the sudden spike in HIV cases across the country, particularly in Taunsa Sharif.
During a session presided over by Chairman Dr. Mahesh Kumar Malani, the committee was informed that 331 HIV cases have been reported in Taunsa tehsil alone. Labeling the situation “alarming,” the chairman demanded a comprehensive report on the causes of the spread and the steps being taken to contain it.
The committee has summoned a detailed briefing for the next meeting. This report must include a breakdown of international funding received for HIV prevention and how those funds are being spent.
Dr. Malani further directed the Health Ministry to improve its inspection systems. He emphasized that provincial health departments must be consulted before finalizing any major national health policies to ensure better coordination.
