Field Marshal Asim Munir Meets Iranian President to Push for Peace

TEHRAN – Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Asim Munir, met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Thursday as part of a high-stakes mission to prevent a return to full-scale war.

The Field Marshal arrived in the Iranian capital on Wednesday following a round of negotiations in Islamabad. During the meeting, both leaders discussed the fragile security situation in the region. Field Marshal Munir emphasized that “this war will bring nothing but destruction” and urged all parties to work toward a permanent ceasefire.

President Pezeshkian praised Pakistan’s role as a mediator. He stated that while Iran seeks peace and regional stability, the “unity of the Muslim Ummah” is essential to protecting the region’s interests.

The visit comes at a critical time. In Washington, US President Donald Trump expressed optimism on Thursday, suggesting that a breakthrough meeting between the US and Iran could happen as early as this weekend. The Field Marshal’s shuttle diplomacy is seen as a vital bridge between Tehran and Washington to ensure the current 10-day ceasefire leads to a lasting deal.
