Islamabad Diplomacy: Trump halts strikes as Pakistan facilitates peace

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s role as the “sole mediator” in the U.S.-Iran conflict has yielded a significant result, with President Donald Trump announcing an extension of the ceasefire that was set to expire early Wednesday morning. The extension provides a vital window for the “Islamabad Peace Talks” to resume, though the situation remains volatile.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar noted that while the ceasefire was technically slated to end at 4:50 AM PST, the U.S. President’s announcement on Truth Social has shifted the deadline indefinitely. Trump credited the request from Field Marshal Asim Munir and PM Shehbaz Sharif as the reason for the pause, though he warned that the U.S. military is “ready and able” to resume operations if an agreement isn’t reached soon.

The ongoing naval blockade remains the primary point of contention. Tehran has previously labeled the maritime siege as “piracy” and an act of war, casting doubt on whether they will return to the table while their ports are restricted. For now, the world watches Islamabad, as Pakistani leadership continues its feverish diplomacy to bridge the gap between Washington and Tehran.
