Tehran: Iran has announced significant progress in the ongoing diplomatic efforts related to the Strait of Hormuz, saying that the talks with Oman have entered their final stage. According to Iranian officials, the aim of these talks is to reach a consensus on mutual cooperation and a workable mechanism regarding maritime transportation in the region.

In his statement, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said the ongoing talks with Oman are in a good way and the two sides are exploring various proposals in detail. His main objective of the talks is “to continue the process of stabilisation, connectivity and cooperation in the Strait of Hormuz in the field of managing it,” he said.

On the other hand, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baqai explained that it is not correct to link the new shipping route or the proposed agreement with Oman to the decision to open or close the Strait of Hormuz. The purpose of the talks is just to develop a useful mechanism to make maritime transport more organised and efficient,” he said.

Experts say that the ongoing talks between Iran and Oman are being considered important developments in the context of maritime security, commercial transportation and regional cooperation in the region.

If the two countries agree on a common framework, it could create new possibilities for confidence-building and maritime management in the Gulf region. Although Iranian officials have made it clear that the talks are not aimed at changing the status of the Strait of Hormuz, diplomatic circles are calling the development an important effort to reduce tensions in the region and increase cooperation. The international community and energy markets will be watching the outcome of the talks in the coming days.
