Karachi – The Pakistan Stock Exchange witnessed an overall cautious and negative trend at the end of the trading week, as a result of which the benchmark KSE-100 index closed at 181,430.02 points with a decline of 346.57 points.
According to market data, the KSE-100 index opened trading at a high of 181,647.27 points for the day, while the session low was 180,620.08 points. The closing level shows a decrease of 0.19% compared to the previous session.
A total volume of 376.06 million shares was recorded in the trading activities of the KSE-100 components. The daily performance of the market shows that despite the buying, selling pressure in some large companies could not keep the index in the positive zone.
Among the prominent stocks supporting the index, HUBC was the top contributor, which contributed 70.55 points positively to the KSE-100. MARI contributed 37.28, CNERGY 33.36, GHGL 23.65 and BOP 22.38 points positively.
On the other hand, pressure in some large companies affected the overall performance of the index. ENGROH exerted the highest pressure with a negative contribution of 131.63 points, while UBL contributed 70.66 and MCB 49.94 points negatively.
Similarly, EFERT recorded a negative contribution of 48.86 points and FATIMA recorded a negative contribution of 29.72 points, reflecting a mixed trend in the major market shares.
The KSE-100’s year-to-date performance was 0.63 percent, while the overall increase of the index during the calendar year was recorded at 4.24 percent. Thus, despite the daily decline, the overall annual direction of the market is still in positive territory.
The KMI-30 index, which is important for Islamic style investments, also saw a decline on Friday. KMI-30 closed at 255,651.73 points after a decline of 483.04 points or 0.19 percent. The index’s highest level was 256,199.53 and lowest level was 254,470.88 points.
In KMI-30, HUBC played a prominent role with a positive contribution of 201.44 points, while MARI added 106.44, OGDC added 45.39, FCCL added 41.42 and ATRL added 38.19 points.
In contrast, ENGROH made the largest negative contribution of 400.90 points in KMI-30. EFERT contributed 139.52, PPL added 62.58, MEBL added 49.32 and MLCF added 48.33 points.
The KMI-30 has been down 0.65% year-to-date, while the index is still up 2.86% on a calendar year basis. These figures suggest that despite the recent daily weakness, the overall annual performance of the market has not been completely negative.
An important aspect that emerges from the market figures is that despite a slight decline in the index, some energy and industrial stocks have attracted buying interest. However, selling pressure in a few prominent stocks of large companies dragged down the overall index.
Analytically, it would be premature to immediately call today’s move a major change in the market trend. Rather than a limited one-day decline, volume, performance of large companies and the overall direction of the market in the coming sessions may provide more important clues for investors.
It is important for investors on the Pakistan Stock Exchange to consider the fundamental financial figures of companies, corporate announcements, economic policies and overall market conditions in the current environment. It is not appropriate to consider a single-day index movement as a definitive indicator of future performance.
The Pakistan Stock Exchange itself also emphasizes caution in using market data and making investment decisions; the latest information on the market and companies is provided on the available official data portal.
