Karachi – Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed a positive trading session on Tuesday as the KMI-30 index closed at 236,551.09 points, showing an increase of 1,183.41 points or 0.50 percent.
The market opened at 233,058.55 points and moved between a high of 236,836.23 and a low of 232,912.57 during the session. Trading activity remained healthy as index constituent volume reached 105.86 million shares.
Oil and gas companies remained the main support for the market. Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) led the gainers with a positive contribution of 452.51 points. Fauji Fertilizer Company (FFC) added 316.30 points, while Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDC) contributed 299.56 points.
Meezan Bank (MEBL) and Mari Energies (MARI) also supported the upward movement by adding 179.92 points and 102.42 points respectively.On the other hand, some pressure came from Hub Power Company (HUBC), which reduced 303.35 points from the index. Lucky Cement (LUCK), Engro Fertilizers (EFERT), Searle Company (SEARL) and Airlink Communication (AIRLINK) also remained among the draggers.
The KMI-30 index has now posted a fiscal year-to-date (FYTD) gain of 27.94 percent, although calendar year-to-date (CYTD) performance remains negative at -4.82 percent.
Market analysts said investor confidence improved due to buying interest in energy and fertilizer sectors.
