Lahore: The Meteorological Department has predicted the arrival of a new series of westerly winds and said that there is a possibility of rain with strong winds in different parts of the country from December 30 to January 2, which is expected to temporarily reduce the intensity of smog and fog. However, experts are warning that if permanent measures are not taken after the rain, air pollution may again become serious.

According to the Meteorological Department, this weather system will affect the upper and central regions, where visibility may improve due to rain and winds. According to the spokesperson, this change in weather is expected to partially clear the fog and smog in urban areas.

On the other hand, most cities in Punjab continue to be under the influence of severe air pollution. According to the international air quality monitoring website, air pollution has reached dangerous levels in the Kahna Nou area of Lahore, where the level of particulate matter was recorded at 568, which is considered very harmful to human health.

According to the data, 487 particulate matter was recorded in Gujranwala, 452 in Faisalabad, a total of 311 in Lahore, and 262 in Multan. According to experts, these levels are many times higher than the standards set by the World Health Organization.

Environmental experts say that rain can provide temporary relief, but it is not a permanent solution. According to them, industrial smoke, the burning of crop residues, and increasing traffic pressure are the main causes of air pollution, without which the problem of smog cannot be solved.
