Iran has clarified its conditions for talks with the US

Summary: Iran has described its seven-point proposal for diplomatic talks with the US as the basic framework and said it can be implemented in two days. According to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghai, the lifting of the US naval blockade is essential for opening the Strait of Hormuz and a final agreement. The exchange of messages between the two countries is also ongoing through Qatar.

Tehran: Iran has described its seven-point proposal for diplomatic talks with the US as the basic framework and said that the progress of the agreement now depends on Washington’s response. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baqai has claimed that the implementation process of this proposal can be completed in two days.

During a weekly press conference in Tehran, Esmail Baqai said that Iran’s demands are clear and logical. The lifting of the US naval blockade is necessary for a final agreement with the US and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

He said that Iran’s seven-stage proposal has been condensed into a plan that can be implemented in two days. According to him, this progress depends on the decision of the US government.

The Iranian spokesman said that indirect contacts and exchanges of messages with the US are ongoing. In this regard, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi was in the Qatari capital Doha to advance diplomatic relations through Qatari mediation.

According to Reuters, Iranian negotiators have returned after talks with mediators in Qatar, while a draft of the proposed agreement is also in circulation. However, no final progress has been announced in the talks yet.

Baqaei also rejected expectations of any major change in policy after the US mid-term elections. He said that the election results should not be expected to change the basic US policy.

On the other hand, an Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman accused the International Criminal Court (ICC) of US pressure. According to him, the court is facing US pressure on the issue of legal actions against Israeli officials.

Baqaei criticised the US, saying that over the past two years, Washington has damaged the diplomatic process on various occasions instead of advancing it. These allegations are the position of the Iranian government.

Discussing the situation in Gaza and Lebanon, the Iranian spokesman called Israel the main cause of instability in West Asia. He said that the ongoing military operations in Gaza and Lebanon and the difficulties in providing basic necessities to the displaced have aggravated the humanitarian crisis.

Ismail Baqaei called on the international community and European countries to pay effective attention to the situation in Gaza. According to him, considering the loss of human lives as mere statistics is a dangerous trend.

The restoration of the Strait of Hormuz, the US naval blockade and other Iranian demands are important topics in the ongoing diplomatic contacts between Iran and the US. However, a consensus between the two countries is still lacking to implement the proposed plan and resume negotiations.
