PSX business ends on a negative trend

Summary: The Pakistan Stock Exchange witnessed cautious and mixed sentiment on the first trading day of November. The KSE-100 Index closed at 166,564 points, up 154.81 points, while the KMI-30 Index also recorded a modest gain. On the other hand, the volume of buying and selling shares in the market remained low, and the overall market capitalisation declined.

Karachi: The Pakistan Stock Exchange witnessed a mixed trend on the first trading day of November, where the benchmark KSE-100 Index closed with a slight increase; however, selling pressure remained in most stocks.

At the end of trading, the KSE-100 Index reached 166,564.06 points after increasing by 154.81 points, or 0.09 percent. The index closed at 166,409.25 points in the previous trading session.

During the trading session, the index moved from a low of 165,585.42 points to a high of 166,989.76 points. Thus, a fluctuation of about 1,404 points was recorded in the trading day.

On the other hand, the KMI-30 index, which shows the performance of Sharia-compliant companies, was also in the positive zone. This index closed at 238,226.41 points, up 254.67 points, or 0.11 percent.

Overall trading activity in the market was lower than the previous session. According to the data portal of the Pakistan Stock Exchange, about 443.4 million shares were traded, worth Rs 17.73 billion.

The overall volatility in share prices led to a decline in market capitalisation from about Rs 95 billion to Rs 18,293 billion.

According to market sources, government subsidy-related factors affected the performance of the refinery sector, which led to pressure on the sector’s shares.

According to experts, despite a slight increase in the benchmark index, the decline in trading volume and the decline in the overall market value reflect the cautious attitude of investors. The direction of the market in the coming sessions will depend on the economic situation, sectoral performance and investor confidence.
