Islamabad: The government has announced a reduction in the prices of petroleum products, under which both petrol and high-speed diesel have become cheaper. According to the notification issued by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) on November 2, the new prices will be applicable from November 3.
According to the notification, the price of petrol has been reduced from Rs 377.91 to Rs 374.51 per litre. In this way, consumers will get relief of Rs 3.40 per litre.
Similarly, the price of high-speed diesel has been reduced by Rs 7.76 per litre, after which its new price has been fixed at Rs 395.20. Earlier, diesel was being sold at Rs 402.96 per litre.
| Petroleum Products | Previous Price | New Price | Decrease |
|---|---|---|---|
| Petrol | Rs 377.91 | Rs 374.51 | Rs 3.40 |
| High-speed diesel | Rs 402.96 | Rs 395.20 | Rs 7.76 |
According to OGRA, the new ex-depot prices have been fixed under the petroleum pricing mechanism approved by the federal government. The latest prices of petroleum products and related notifications are also available on the organisation’s website.
The reduction in diesel prices is important for the transport, freight and agricultural sectors, as these sectors use diesel on a large scale. The reduction could ease some of the pressure on business costs and the cost of transporting goods.
However, the full benefit of the reduction in petroleum product prices reaching consumers will also depend on possible changes in transport fares and prices of essential commodities.
