Tehran — Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has made it clear that Iran will not give up its right to enrich uranium under any circumstances, and world powers will eventually have to recognise this right. He said that Iran is determined to protect its legal and internationally recognised rights and will not back down from its position despite any pressure.
Addressing an event in Tehran, the Iranian president criticised US policies and said that a significant change is being seen in US President Donald Trump’s position. According to him, initially there was talk of imposing various sanctions on Iran and limiting its nuclear programme, but recent statements present a different picture.
Masoud Peshkeshian said that the US president initially took the position that Iran should not have some basic rights, but later a change was seen in his statements. He claimed that Washington has realised that it is not possible to completely ignore Iran’s legal rights.
The Iranian president stressed that uranium enrichment is Iran’s fundamental right and that the country will continue its peaceful nuclear programme. According to him, Iran’s nuclear programme is important for national development, the energy sector and scientific research and should not be subjected to political pressure.
Expressing hope regarding the ongoing diplomatic contacts, he said that the parties involved in the talks have the ability to successfully advance the current process. He said that if all parties adopt a mutual respect and realistic approach, significant progress is possible.
In his speech, President Pezzekiyan also criticised Iran’s internal political opponents. He said that some monarchist elements do not want to see the process of stability and development in the country moving forward. According to him, such groups try to promote political chaos rather than national interests.
He added that elements that seek to create instability are actually supporting policies that increase tensions in the region. According to the president, Iran’s priority is internal stability, economic development and public welfare.
According to political analysts, the Iranian president’s statement comes at a time when international diplomatic activities are intensifying regarding Iran’s nuclear programme and the regional situation. Experts say that Tehran’s continued insistence on its right to enrich uranium will remain a key issue in future negotiations.
President Pezhakian concluded his speech by expressing hope that differences will be reduced through diplomatic processes and the path to lasting peace and stability in the region will be paved.
