Karachi: Karachi experienced one of its hottest and driest days of the season on Wednesday as strong winds and rising temperatures created difficult conditions across the city.
According to the Meteorological Department officials, the temperature during the day reached 40.1 degrees Celsius, while dry winds from the southwest continued from morning till evening, raising dust in several neighbourhoods.
Unlike the humid conditions usually associated with Karachi’s coastal climate, Wednesday’s weather remained unusually dry due to low humidity levels in the air. The combination of heat and dust significantly increased the discomfort level for commuters and outdoor workers.
Residents of several areas reported a decline in air quality and intense heat during the afternoon hours as the wind speed occasionally strengthened, adding to the intensity of the weather conditions.
A large part of Sindh was also gripped by scorching temperatures. Hyderabad, Sukkur and Mohenjo-Daro recorded temperatures of 45 degrees Celsius, while Mithi and Nawabshah recorded temperatures of around 43 degrees Celsius.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department said that the weather is likely to remain hot and dry in most districts of the province on Thursday. However, there may be thundershowers in Ghotki and adjoining areas under partly cloudy skies.
Authorities have urged citizens to stay indoors during the afternoon hours, drink plenty of water and take precautions against heat exhaustion and dehydration during the ongoing heatwave.
