LAHORE: The provincial Environment Protection Agency (EPA) has stepped up its anti-smog drive by demolishing an industrial unit in Lahore that was emitting hazardous emissions into the air.
Officials said the factory was repeatedly warned through government notices, but it ignored environmental regulations. Upon inspection, EPA teams discovered burning furnaces and large quantities of carbon-filled bags that were illegally kept on the site. The materials were seized, and several people who resisted the operation were arrested and later handed over to the police along with their weapons.
Officials said laboratory reports confirmed high levels of pollution emanating from the site. The EPA immediately stopped the ongoing operations to prevent further environmental damage.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, while praising the efforts of the EPA, directed that all industries involved in polluting activities should face strict and indiscriminate action. He stressed that the health of citizens is the government’s top priority, and teams will be monitoring across Punjab 24 hours a day.
The provincial government, while reiterating its zero-tolerance stance, warned that anyone damaging the environment or breaking government seals would face strict legal consequences. The ongoing crackdown is aimed at ensuring clean air and a healthy environment for the public.
