Weekly inflation rate slows in Pakistan, prices of vegetables and pulses increase

Islamabad: According to the weekly report of the Bureau of Statistics, there has been a slight decrease in the overall inflation rate in the country, however, many daily consumption items are still becoming expensive. According to the data, the inflation rate was recorded to decrease by 0.2 percent this week, while on an annual basis, this rate reached 5.03 percent.

The report states that during the last week, the prices of 22 essential items increased, 4 items became cheaper, while the prices of 25 items remained stable.

The most significant increase was in the prices of onions and tomatoes, which increased by 12.17 percent and 10.47 percent respectively. In addition, potatoes became more expensive by 3.57 percent, rice by 1.63 percent and eggs by 1.52 percent. Increases were also recorded in the prices of moong dal, dal mash, LPG, wood and clothes.

On an annual basis, the price of tomatoes increased by 90 percent, sugar by 29 percent and flour by 18.65 percent, which is a cause of concern for the public.

However, according to the report, a decrease in the prices of some commodities has also been seen in the recent week. Flour has become cheaper by 9.80 percent and chicken by 3.20 percent, which has given some relief to the consumers.
