Islamabad: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has issued an official notification of the increase in the prices of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), under which the new prices will be implemented for June 2026.
According to the official notification, the new price of LPG has been fixed at Rs 308.76 per kg. After this price increase, there will be an increase in the direct financial burden on domestic consumers, especially those households that depend on LPG for cooking and daily use.
According to OGRA, as a result of the price increase, an 11.8 kg domestic cylinder has become expensive by Rs 58.51. Under the new price, the total price of a domestic cylinder has been fixed at Rs 3643.41, which will be effective from next month.
The notification issued by the authority said that the prices have been determined according to international market trends and changes in import costs. Since LPG is imported to a large extent in Pakistan, fluctuations in global prices have a direct impact on local prices.
According to experts, this increase in LPG prices has come at a time when domestic consumers are already facing the pressure of rising inflation and energy costs. This increase is expected to further increase the difficulties of the middle and low-income classes.
Energy sector experts say that the demand for LPG in Pakistan is especially high in areas where access to natural gas is limited. In such a situation, the increase in prices directly affects the domestic budget.
According to experts from the Institute of Statistics and Energy Policy, frequent changes in energy prices not only affect the inflation rate but also affect overall economic stability. According to them, a transparent and consistent policy in determining prices is very important so that consumers can be protected from uncertainty.
Government sources say that due to fluctuations in LPG prices in the international market, changes in prices at the local level also become inevitable. However, relief options are also being considered at various levels to alleviate the hardships of consumers. Overall, the implementation of the new prices is certain to increase energy costs for domestic consumers, which may also have an impact on inflation figures in the coming months.
