Ramadan Supplications (Duas)

Sehri Dua (Intention)

وَبِصَوْمِ غَدٍ نَّوَيْتُ مِنْ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ

I intend to keep the fast for tomorrow in the month of Ramadan.

اور میں نے ماہِ رمضان کے کل کے روزے کی نیت کی۔

Iftar Dua

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّی لَکَ صُمْتُ وَبِکَ اٰمَنْتُ وَعَلَيْکَ تَوَکَّلْتُ وَعَلٰی رِزْقِکَ اَفْطَرْتُ

O Allah! I fasted for You, and I believe in You, and I put my trust in You, and I break my fast with Your sustenance.

اے اللہ! میں نے تیرے ہی لیے روزہ رکھا اور تجھ پر ہی ایمان لایا اور تجھ پر ہی بھروسہ کیا اور تیرے ہی دیے ہوئے رزق سے افطار کیا۔

First Ashra Dua (Days 1–10: The Days of Mercy)

رَبِّ اغْفِرْ وَارْحَمْ وَأَنْتَ خَيْرُ الرَّاحِمِينَ

My Lord! Forgive and have mercy, for You are the best of those who show mercy.

اے میرے رب! مجھے بخش دے اور مجھ پر رحم فرما، تو سب سے بہتر رحم فرمانے والا ہے۔

Healthy meal plan and tips for your Ramadan routine

Here is a recommended healthy meal plan and tips for your Ramadan routine.

1. Top Foods for Sehri (Energy & Fullness)

  • Oats (Dalia): The king of Sehri. High in fibre, oats release energy slowly throughout the day. Try “Overnight Oats” mixed with milk and a few nuts.
  • Greek Yoghurt or Dahi: Excellent for digestion and preventing thirst. It provides protein and essential probiotics.
  • Eggs: A powerhouse of protein. Boiled or lightly fried eggs help keep hunger at bay for hours.
  • Bananas: Rich in potassium, they help balance electrolytes and reduce muscle cramps.
  • Whole Wheat Roti/Bread: Avoid white flour (maida); stick to whole grain for a steady glucose release.

2. Hydration Strategy (Beat the Thirst)

  • Water-Rich Fruits: Include watermelon, cucumber, and strawberries in your pre-dawn meal. These act like “time-release” water for your body.
  • Chia Seeds (Tukhm-e-Sharbati): Soak a teaspoon in water and drink it. These seeds absorb 10x their weight in water, helping you stay hydrated longer.
  • Coconut Water: If available, it’s the best natural electrolyte drink to prevent dizziness.
  • Milk-based Drinks: A glass of milk or a light lassi is more hydrating than plain water because it stays in the digestive system longer.

3. Foods to Avoid at Sehri

  • Excessive Salt: Avoid pickles (Achaar), salty chips, or heavy spices. Salt pulls water from your cells, making you extremely thirsty by midday.
  • Caffeine: Tea and coffee are diuretics; they cause you to lose fluids faster through urination. If you must have tea, limit it to one small cup.
  • Deep-Fried Items: Parathas dripping in oil can cause acidity and heartburn while your stomach is empty.
  • Sugary Cereals: These cause a “sugar crash”, leaving you tired and hungry just a few hours into your fast.

4. Recommended Sehri Combo

The “Power Bowl”: > A bowl of oats with milk, topped with sliced bananas, a few almonds, and a drizzle of honey. Pair this with 2 glasses of water (sipped slowly, not gulped).

Start with 2 dates and water as per Sunnah. This provides an immediate energy boost and rehydrates your cells before you move on to heavier fried snacks.

FAQs: Ramadan Sehri & Iftar Masail

Q: Is the fast valid if I miss the Sehri meal?

A: Yes, the fast is valid. While eating Sehri is a blessed Sunnah, it is not a technical requirement for the validity of the fast, provided you had the intention (Niyyah) to fast before dawn.

Q: Does eating or drinking by mistake break the fast?

A: No. If you eat or drink because you genuinely forgot you were fasting, your fast remains valid. You should stop immediately upon remembering.

Q: Can I use a toothbrush or miswak while fasting?

A: Using a miswak is Sunnah and permissible. Using a toothbrush with paste is allowed but discouraged (Makruh) by some scholars due to the risk of swallowing the paste. It is safer to brush before Sehri ends.

Q: What if the Sehri time ends while I am still chewing?

A: You must stop eating and drinking immediately when the time expires. Swallowing food after the “Sehri End” time will invalidate the fast.
