Islamabad: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued an emergency action plan to ensure the functioning of the telecom network in view of the ongoing rains and flood threats across the country.

PTA has established a national emergency telecommunications center and directed all mobile operators to provide network restoration, coverage in flood-affected areas, and priority access to relief teams.

Key points of the advisory:

  • Telecom infrastructure should be secured in sensitive areas.
  • In case of serious technical failure, PTA headquarters should be informed immediately.
  • Mobile operators should provide SMS alerts and evacuation information related to floods to the public.
  • Temporary base stations should be installed where the permanent network is affected.
  • Uninterrupted provision of SIM, balance, and call services to customers should be ensured.

PTA has also been directed to mobilize field teams at the local level and keep franchisees ready to redress complaints.
