Weaponizing water is a reflection of Modi government’s extremist thinking

ISLAMABAD — Pakistan has strongly condemned Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent statement, terming it irresponsible and dangerous for regional peace. The Foreign Office said in a statement that the threat to weaponize a treaty resource like water is a negation of global norms and international agreements.

The Foreign Office spokesperson said that the Indian government is resorting to belligerent statements to hide its internal failures. Instead of portraying itself as a victim, India should respect international laws and obligations.

He said that the Indian leadership, which seeks respect at the global level, should show principled leadership instead of hatred, anti-minority and religious extremism. The spokesperson stressed that the Indian people, especially the younger generation, now have to decide whether they want to stand by the politics of hatred or choose a peaceful, developed India.
