Use only registered mobile phones, PTA’s message

Lahore: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has warned citizens that unregistered mobile phones used in the country may soon be blocked. The agency said that a large number of phones are being used on which customs tax has not been paid, which is why they are usually sold at low prices in the market.

According to the PTA, the Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) is currently active, through which only those mobile phones that are officially registered can work on the country’s network. Unregistered phones can be blocked at any time, so citizens should check their status immediately.

Users can get the 15-digit IMEI number of their phone by dialling *#06#, while the registration status can also be checked on 8484 or the PTA website.

The PTA clarified that it is better to register the phone before it is blocked so that the connectivity is not affected. The agency asked citizens to be responsible citizens and use only approved and legal devices.
