Lahore: A new and exciting chapter is about to open in world cricket. Former star players Matthew Hayden, Harbhajan Singh, Sir Clevedon and AB de Villiers announced the launch of a unique cricket format called Test Twenty in a joint press conference.
This new format has been formed under the playing laws of the International Cricket Council (ICC). There will be a total of 80 overs in Test Twenty, in which each team will play two innings and each inning will consist of 20 overs. According to experts, this format will prove to be a fascinating combination of Test cricket strategy and T20 speed.
In the initial phase, 6 franchise teams will participate in Test Twenty, while the first two editions will be held in India. This format will be officially launched in January 2026.
In Test Twenty, win, loss, tie and draw will be the four possible outcomes, which makes it unique from other formats. Cricket fans and former players have described the experience as a “new spirit of the game” that could change the landscape of global cricket in the future.
