Muzaffarabad: Differences persist within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on the issue of boycotting or participating in the electoral process regarding the Azad Jammu and Kashmir general elections, due to which the party’s final election strategy could not be revealed. Sources say that this situation has created uncertainty among workers and potential candidates.
According to party sources, the PTI political committee had earlier announced holding a review meeting within seven days on the decision to boycott the elections, but despite the completion of the stipulated period, the meeting could not be convened. Due to this delay, questions are being raised about the party’s future course of action.
According to reports, there are different views on this issue between the PTI political committee and the Azad Kashmir governing body. The governing body had supported participating in the elections with a majority vote in its consultation, while the political committee had declared the boycott and called for further consultation. These differences persist till now, and no common position could be agreed upon.
Political observers say that it is very important for any major political party to decide on an election strategy in a timely manner, as it has a direct impact on the preparation of candidates, election campaigns and communication with voters. According to them, the party’s practical electoral direction will be clear only after the final decision is made.
On the other hand, some leaders associated with the opposition at the federal level have also advised the PTI to act cautiously and review all aspects in its decision to boycott the elections. Meanwhile, PTI Azad Kashmir President Qayyum Niazi is of the opinion that the current situation is not entirely conducive to holding free, transparent and impartial elections, so the party will take a decision on the future after carefully reviewing the entire situation.
The eyes of political circles are now focused on the expected meeting of the PTI political committee, where the party’s final strategy regarding the Azad Kashmir general elections and the decision regarding boycott or participation in the electoral process are likely to come out.
