Provincial National Action Plan Committee takes tough decision, Safe Cities expansion, digital surveillance and zero tolerance policy against criminal networks


Lahore: The government has prepared a comprehensive and tough security strategy to improve the law and order situation in Punjab province and completely eradicate various crimes including terrorism. In the meeting of the Provincial National Action Plan Committee, responsibilities were assigned to law enforcement agencies with clear goals and timelines.
According to sources, it was decided in the meeting that all agencies will take joint actions to implement the revised National Action Plan, while intelligence-based operations will be aligned with modern requirements.
Officials say that indiscriminate action will be taken against terrorist networks, their facilitators and financial backers. In this regard, CTD, police and Special Branch have been directed to play a more active role.
The meeting laid special emphasis on the use of technology. A digital monitoring system will be introduced for the movement of petrol pumps, gas agencies and explosives so that any suspicious activity can be identified immediately.
It has been decided to expand the Safe Cities Program and install modern cameras on all major cities, entry and exit routes and national highways. Surveillance will also be increased on motorways through a smart surveillance system.
Moreover, it has been announced to launch special operations against begging mafia and organized begging, while strict scrutiny will be carried out on people traveling abroad. In this regard, the FIA ​​and the police will launch joint operations.
It was also decided to adopt a zero-tolerance policy to eliminate economic crimes such as smuggling, drugs and electricity theft. It has been agreed to improve data sharing and coordination between various agencies.
According to sources, digital enforcement stations will be set up on bridges across the Indus River, while the Special Protection Unit has been given more powers to protect foreign nationals, especially Chinese residents.
Analysts say that if these decisions are implemented effectively, the crime and terrorism rate in Punjab could significantly reduce.
