Lahore: Pakistan Muslim League (N) leader Rana Sanaullah has said that for better governance in the country, it is essential to empower local governments in the true sense, because public problems cannot be solved without devolution of powers to the grassroots level.
In his statement, he said that strengthening district governments is a constitutional requirement and this is the basis of the democratic system. According to him, development work cannot be done effectively without giving financial, administrative and legal powers to local representatives.
He said that citizens should get facilities at their district level instead of looking to big cities or the federation for the solution of their daily problems.
Talking about the political situation, Rana Sanaullah said that the court has laid down a regular procedure for meeting the founder of PTI, which is necessary for everyone to follow. He said that meetings should not be used for political purposes or to create a narrative against institutions.
He said that statements against state institutions raise political temperatures and affect the democratic process.
The former interior minister also expressed deep concern over the fire incident that took place in Lahore’s Gul Plaza. He said that it is important to know who gave approval to the construction of the building and additional floors and whether all legal requirements were met.
He stressed that if anyone’s negligence or illegal construction is revealed, those responsible should be brought to justice through a transparent investigation.
According to analysts, Rana Sanaullah’s statements have focused on important points such as the strength of local governments, compliance with court decisions and citizen security, which may become the center of political debate in the coming days.
