PM Shahbaz Sharif thanks Army Chief for curbing Smuggling and Highlighting Importance of Economic Stability

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has credited Pakistan’s Army Chief for playing a key role in ending smuggling in the country, highlighting the significant improvement in curbing illegal activities. During a speech at a federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad, the Prime Minister emphasized that as the new year begins, it is a time for the nation to pray for the prosperity of Pakistan and work towards ensuring the stability of the economy.

The Prime Minister expressed that programs like Udaan-e-Pakistan will be pivotal in further stabilizing the nation’s economy. He reiterated that for Pakistan’s economic development to progress, the country must focus on its economic stability, directing all priorities toward boosting the economy. According to him, there is no other alternative but to focus on increasing exports.

He also mentioned that faceless interaction has begun at Karachi Port, offering relief to businessmen and contributing to a reduction in oil smuggling. Additionally, remittances are showing positive growth, reaching about $15 billion in just five months. If this performance continues, remittances could reach a record $35 billion by the end of the year.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif highlighted that the sit-ins in the past had caused significant damage to the economy, and there is a clear gap between the targets set by the government and the IMF. He also paid tribute to the sacrifices of Pakistan’s soldiers, stating that they are “irrigating Pakistan with their blood,” acknowledging their immense contribution to the nation’s progress and security.
