Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced the removal of the Pakistan Television (PTV) license fee included in electricity bills across the country. This decision will provide relief of billions of rupees to over 40 million electricity consumers annually.

The Prime Minister announced this important step while addressing the inauguration ceremony of the “Apna Meter, Apna Reading” Power Smart Mobile App in Islamabad today. The decision is part of the government’s broader efforts to reduce the financial burden on the public and bring transparency to the electricity system.

The PTV license fee, which was Rs 35 per month, has long been a part of every electricity bill, regardless of whether the consumer watches PTV or not. The removal of this fee will benefit all domestic, commercial, and industrial consumers.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the ongoing reforms in the energy sector and said that the government is taking vigorous steps to prevent power theft and reduce the cost of production. He reiterated the commitment that protecting the rights of consumers is the top priority of the government.

This decision is being appreciated by consumers, who are welcoming any relief in electricity bills in this era of inflation.
