Pakistan government’s innovative tracking system, getting rid of queues at passport offices

Islamabad: The Pakistani government has now introduced an innovative online tracking system for passport applicants, so that people do not have to visit the office repeatedly to check the status of their application. The system will work through the DGIP website and a specific SMS code, under which applicants will be able to know the progress of their application through the tracking number or CNIC number.

Officials say that the SMS tracking service has been reactivated and will work through the code 9988. Information like application completion, printing or delivery will also be available through the same service.

Moreover, the government has also fixed the token distribution timings to save applicants from long queues and waiting at the offices. The tokens will be available from 8 am to 1 pm on weekdays, while the token issuance time will be reduced on Fridays.

This initiative is an attempt to expand the scope of more facilities under the “Passport Fee Asaan” application and DGIP’s online e-service portal, with the aim of making the passport system fast, transparent and traveler-friendly.
