Pakistan Army Retaliates After Afghan Forces Cross Border Firing

Islamabad: According to security sources, on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, Afghan forces suddenly opened fire on Angor Adda, Bajaur, Kurram, Dir, Chitral and Baram Chah sectors, allegedly with the aim of infiltrating terrorist groups across the border. The alert posts of the Pakistan Army responded immediately and vigorously, giving a befitting reply to the Afghan forces, which continued for several hours.

During the counter-attack, the Pakistan Army successfully targeted several Afghan posts, terrorist camps and Khawarij hideouts. According to sources, control of at least 19 Afghan border posts was taken while dozens of Afghan personnel and terrorists were killed. At some places, the Taliban abandoned the posts and fled, leaving the bodies lying there.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi termed the incident as a serious violation of international law and said that Pakistan will not tolerate any provocation and will continue to respond to brick with stone. He said that the Pakistani people are standing with their armed forces like a lead wall.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Office summoned the Afghan ambassador and registered a strong protest against the joint statement of India and Afghanistan. The spokesperson made it clear that declaring Jammu and Kashmir as part of India is a clear violation of UN resolutions and Pakistan will not accept it under any circumstances.

Pakistan once again stressed that Afghanistan should prevent its territory from being used for terrorism and take real steps for peace and stability in the region. Pakistan is of the view that despite hosting four million Afghan refugees for a long time, continuous infiltration and terrorist attacks are unacceptable.
